How to Unclog Your Pores

Clogged pores - Oh how we hate them so much! Caused usually by blockages made up of sebum, dirt, dead skin cells or anything you could put on your face, it’s a problem most of us face at least once or throughout our lives. Many problems like acne, would arise if we don’t start clearing out our pores and keeping them clean, so continue reading and find out the secrets behind unclogging pores!

EXFOLIATE! EXFOLIATE! EXFOLIATE!

Exfoliation is a step in our skincare routine that we should practice often, at least 2-3 times a week. Why? - Well by exfoliating our skin, we are removing dead skin cells from the surface of our skin. Plus, exfoliating your skin may also help remove any buildup of impurities on our skin. When implementing exfoliation into your routine, we would always recommend using ultra-gentle exfoliators like our Enzyme Instant Glow Serum, instead of physical ones. Not only is it more gentle on the skin, it can also help calm skin redness and prevent sensitivity. It’s gentle enough for daily use too.

Always practice double cleansing!

Double cleansing is the only method that properly cleans the pores. Incorporating 2 steps in cleaning the skin - The first using an oil-based cleanser to get rid of all the pore blocking impurities like makeup, sunscreen and even excess sebum. Then the second step is cleaning the face with a gel cleanser to clean the remaining oil on the skin and the pores of any residue impurities. By using the double cleansing method, you would definitely get a more thorough cleaning compared to washing your face for only one time. Not sure what face cleanser duo you should get? Try Joi’s Coconut & Avocado Cleansing Oil and Patchouli Jelly Cleanser - Get that refreshed and clean feeling, without stripping off and drying your skin.

Use extraction tools

Not our favourite or most desirable method of clearing clogged pores, however it is effective and safe when done correctly. The most common extraction tool would be the comedone extractor which helps get rid of whiteheads and blackheads. If you do choose to go with this method, just ensure you clean it properly before and after using it.

Apply face oils!

The common myth is that using face oils would further clog your pores. However, this is not true at all! Clogged pores are caused by naturally produced oils called sebum, so using topical face oils would not contribute to clogging your pores at all...but rather the opposite. By applying face oils onto the skin, it can actually help dissolve some of the excess sebum clogging your pores, and at the same time heal the skin barrier which lessens the appearance of pores on the skin. Face oils are also known to help regulate oil production, hence preventing your sebaceous glands from overproducing sebum and clogging your pores. Try the Bakuchiol Skin Booster, Prickly Pear Brightening Face Oil and Blue Tansy Clarifying Face Oil  helps clear congested pores and balances out oil secretion.
